Solo exhibition by Urs Dickerhof at étage 19 from 12 to 15 May 2022. The opening took place on 12 May 2022 at 6.00 pm. Dickerhof’s practice encompasses painting, printmaking, image montage, texts, art in public spaces and artistic publications; his visual world combines pop-cultural symbols, memory, the body, signs and fragments of poetic narrative.

Urs Dickerhof, born in Zurich in 1941, grew up in Zurich and, from 1956, in Ticino; he has lived in Biel/Bienne since 1979. His education took him to Locarno, Bern, Bochum and Amsterdam, amongst other places; this was followed by working stays in several European cities. He has been exhibiting internationally since the 1960s. His practice encompasses painting, printmaking, image montage, texts, art in public spaces and numerous publications. From 1979 to 2007, he headed the Biel School of Design and also taught at the School of Design in Bern and Biel.
The E19 solo exhibition presented Urs Dickerhof as an artist with a wide-ranging visual and textual practice. The collages and drawings shown on the map refer to his visual montages, which draw on observations of everyday life, pop culture symbols, memory and poetic displacement.
